Blueprints

“Our best bet will be to infiltrate during gray hours.” Roku sat across from Clem in his small sector four hideout. He spread out a blueprint on the wooden crate between them.

“Wow, where did you get that?” asked Clem.

“You’d be surprised what low level Ministry grunts will do to prevent compromising photos from getting into the wrong hands.”

“Photos? What kind of photos?”

“Oh I didn’t actually have any, but what matters is he thought I did.” Roku winked. “Gray hours are the time after closing when staff are setting up new exhib—”

“I know what gray hours are.”

“Okay, just making sure.” Roku smiled. “There are no shortage of security measures at the Rosenbach. These include security personnel, surveillance canisters, sealed windows rigged with break sensors, knockout gas, pressure plate triggered grap-darts, artifact parcel control, and room saturated motion detection.”

“Oh, is that all?”

“Very funny,” said Roku. “All of these measures combined would be near impossible to handle, but fortunately most of them are turned off during gray hours.” He pulled a folded up piece of paper from his pocket and placed it over the blueprints.

“What’s this?” Clem read the paper.

“The third day…that’s tomorrow,” said Clem, looking up at him.

Roku nodded. “It is. Which means they’ll be finalizing the setup tonight.”

“Tonight? I thought we’d have more time to—”

“Don’t tell me you’re getting cold feet, Clem?”

“I’m not getting cold feet,” she glared at him, “It’s just that these things take time, preparation.”

“What do you think all of this is?” He gestured to the blueprints and flyer. “I’ve got everything covered for getting us inside. All you need to worry about is getting us into the vault. If we don’t do this tonight, we may not get another chance for a long time.”

Clem took a deep breath, and nodded.

Roku removed the flyer and studied the blueprint. “The artifact we want—the gathering mask—is located here.” He pointed to a small room in the northeast corner of the complex. “It’s behind a hyper-secure class three vault. These usually take around two hours to breach. We will have thirty minutes, give or take.”

“Thirty minutes…” Clem chewed her thumbnail. “What else do you know about it?”

“Not much, unfortunately. There will likely be a lockbox inside which we’ll need to crack as well.”

Clem sighed. “If we’re doing this tonight, I’m going to need to head home and grab my gear.”

“Hold on, there’s more.” Roku walked over to a wooden chest near his bed, opened it, and pulled out two gray jumpsuits. “Staff installation setup uniforms. We enter the museum at 18:00, one hour before closing time, and casually scout the area, pretending to be patrons. Then when they kick everyone out, we hide, and change into these.” He held up the jumpsuits. “The new installation is being set up here,”—he pointed to a room in the southeast corner—“so we should be far enough away from the action to work.
